The Sun Is Not Disturbed

A quiet reflection on why your experience changes — but you don’t.

FEATURED REFLECTIONS

Quiet From Within

A Simple Observation

Look at this carefully.

One sun.
Many pots.

Each pot filled with water.

The same sun
reflects in all of them.

But Something Looks Different

Even though the source is one,
the reflections don’t look the same.

Some are clear.
Some are shaky.
Some are muddy.

And naturally, it feels like
something has changed.

The Easy Conclusion

So the mind assumes:

“Maybe there are many suns.”

But that is not true.

There is only one sun.

What changes is not the sun —
only the reflecting medium.

What Is Actually Changing

If the water is disturbed,
the reflection shakes.

If the water is muddy,
the reflection looks dull.

If the water is still,
the reflection appears clear.

But none of this touches the sun itself.

It remains exactly as it is.

The Deeper Point

Vedanta uses this simple example
to point to something subtle:

We mistake the condition of the mind
for the nature of awareness.

The Everyday Experience

When the mind is restless,
we say, “I am restless.”

When the mind is dull,
we say, “I am dull.”

When the mind is calm,
we say, “I am peaceful.”

Without noticing,
we shift our identity
based on the state of the mind.

What Is Overlooked

But just like the sun
is not affected by the water,

awareness is not affected
by the condition of the mind.

It is never disturbed.
Never dull.
Never damaged.

It simply appears that way
through the mind.

The Real Issue

The problem is not the reflection.

The problem is identification.

We take the changing condition
to be who we are.

A Different Direction

Vedanta does not ask you
to fix the sun.

It does not ask you
to eliminate every disturbance.

It asks something much simpler:

Understand what you truly are.

What Changes After That

The mind can still move.

It can be restless.
It can be dull.
It can be calm.

But your sense of “I”
no longer depends on it.

Because you are no longer
confused with the reflection.

Reflection

What are you calling “me” today—

the condition of the mind,
or the awareness behind it?
